"ACENET ERA-NET offers a unique opportunity to focus at a transnational level on those technologies  that have a substantial impact on the sustainability and economics of products and processes"

Applied catalysis: key to sustainability

Applied catalysis is a strongly interdisciplinary field, encompassing chemistry, bioscience and materials and engineering science, among others. It also has a large potential to address many areas of socio-economic activity as well as key European challenges, such as sustainability and energy. The OECD estimates that 30% to 40% of the gross national products of developed economies, such as those of the EU Member States, depends on catalysts and catalytic technologies. As such, catalysis has a large impact on economic and social prosperity in Europe.

ACENET ERA-NET

The ACENET (Applied Catalysis European NETwork) ERA-NET network unites twelve research management and funding organisations from ten EU Member States to bring coherence and cooperation to national research programmes and policies on applied catalysis. Its activities will lead to:

  • integrated processes between the national research-funding organisations as a result of sharing good practice and infrastructure
  • higher efficiency in research by cross-disciplinary knowledge-sharing
  • a framework for education and qualification for young scientists as a result of an inventory of training needs
